The United States and Indonesia have reached a major trade agreement that will eliminate tariffs on over 99% of US goods exported to Indonesia and remove most non-tariff barriers. In return, Indonesia will face a 19% tariff on its exports to the US, significantly lower than the previously threatened 32%. The deal also includes Indonesia lifting restrictions on critical mineral exports and committing to large purchases of US agricultural products and Boeing jets. US officials estimate the agreement could unlock at least $50 billion in new market access for American businesses. While the deal is hailed as a win for US industries, some critics warn it may heavily favor American interests and set a precedent for future US trade negotiations.
