A group of anonymous filmmakers from Hong Kong, now based overseas, are working on a movie project titled ‘Tiananmen’ to mark the controversial anniversary of the June 4 political upheaval. This initiative comes as the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown approaches, a period marked by its significant impact on political and social discourse. With Hong Kong's diminishing freedoms, particularly the suppression of the annual June 4 vigil that once commemorated the victims of the crackdown, these filmmakers aim to keep the memory and awareness of Tiananmen alive through their cinematic work. This project reflects the ongoing efforts of overseas communities to preserve and honor the legacy of those who stood up for democracy and freedom in the face of oppression.
